Fix My Credit Report
So you want the answer to how do I fix my credit report? Its really easy. If you have the money to pay your bills, solving a credit problem is simple. If you don’t, then we need to get creative and look for ways you can temporarily make your credit report better while preparing to meet all your obligations.
Lets start with getting your credit report. There are a couple of ways to do this. If you’ve been turned down for credit as the result of information from one of the credit reporting agencies (CRA), then you already have the information you need to get your freebie. Write to the address on denial of credit letter and request your free report. Make certain to cite the denial letter as reason for your request. If you don’t have a denial handy, you can get your free annual credit report from annualcreditreport.com. Do not confuse this report with one you’ve heard or seen countless times on radio and television for a free credit report. Annualcreditreport.com is the official free report. The other starts “free” then asks for cash and a credit monitoring program going forward.
When I wanted to fix my credit, the next step I took after looking at a credit report that resembled a rap sheet, was to begin negotiations with my creditors. If you find yourself in debt too far to get out, turn to your creditors for help. They simply want to be paid. You have the opportunity to negotiate with them to reduce balances, interest rates, and minimum payments to help you get ahead of your debt. Keep in mind, you will probably lose that creditor in the future and it will still impact your credit negatively. It will be less negative than continuing to keep a large overdue balance on your credit report, or worse filing bankruptcy.
Here are the baby steps to take in answer to how do I fix my credit report. Get a copy of your report. Pay your bills immediately or negotiate an acceptable payment arrangement with your creditors. Time and history are the big factors in your credit report. While the process to fix my credit can be opaque at times, those two items are really all your credit report contains.
