The Cost Of A College Degree Is Too Much In 2010

Although it is summer now, if you are going to need money for going to school next year, now is the time you should be investigating your options. If you are hoping to get one of the Obama grants for moms, you are going to be competing with many others as money is tight right now wherever you live.

President Obama gave a speech last year and he mentioned that he thought it was important for mothers to go back to school. Because of that speech, people now think that there are special Obama college grants just for women and mothers. But that is not the case as there have been no new grants initiated for that purpose since he came into office.

The high school seniors in 2010 are in an unenviable situation where they find themselves with few good choices. Going on to college is extremely costly and the alternative of getting a job is not a good one either with the horrible economy.  If they choose college it will probably mean they have to get a big loan and will be in debt when they graduate four years from now. And if they can’t get a job now or then, what are they to do? College is preferable but the price has gotten so steep that some prospective students much be questioning whether it’s really worth the cost.

It was once said that everybody should have a college degree. But with the price of a degree being so much now, there must be a point where it becomes foolish to pay that much. Going to a trade school and learning a skill that can be turned into a job has got to be a viable option for many. When school aged kids graduate and have so much debt that will have to be repaid, they are robbed of their innocence and youth by being thrown into the fire right away. It seems that a higher education that is so costly is not the right choice for everyone.
